Working at Switzer Learning Center
Switzer Learning Center is proud to offer a number of different employment, internship, and volunteer opportunities at the Center. All of our staff members, whether they are paid employees, interns, or unpaid volunteers, are compassionate and warm individuals who have unique caring and professional skills to support our students with exceptional needs.
We are always interested in hiring professional special educators with a passion for making a difference in a nonprofit therapeutic environment. Frequently we have openings in the following fields:
- All of our special education teachers must have a valid teaching credential authorizing service for mild-moderate or moderate-severe disabling conditions of students issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
- Classroom instructional aides preferably have a valid Emergency 30-Day Substitute Teaching Permit, or at least a bachelor’s degree and are committed to passing all three sections of the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST) and obtain an Emergency 30-Day Substitute Teaching Permit within their first year of employment.
- Speech and language pathologists should apply if they have a current California license or have completed all of the requirements to obtain full license, including master’s degree from an accredited institution, proof of Required Professional Experience, and a passing score of 162 or higher on the Educational Testing Service Praxis Series.
- Preference is given to 1:1 behavioral aides, and paraprofessional functional living aides applicants who have completed two years of college after high school graduation. Aides must also pass an assessment of knowledge and skills to assist in instruction.
- Volunteers to assist in direct student involvement activities, or to provide behind the scenes help.
The California Department of Education requires that all staff and volunteers working with or around students must submit to live scan fingerprinting and pass a California Department of Justice clearance of no violent or serious felony convictions, and have a current tuberculosis clearance before coming in contact with any students. All Switzer Center employees are mandated reporters who are required to report suspected child abuse or neglect.
